What are adventure games?

Adventure games send you somewhere and ask you to find a way through. Platformers are about running and jumping across gaps and traps; parkour and obby games are 3D obstacle courses; escape games lock you in a room or a building until you solve your way out; and quest games mix exploring, collecting and small puzzles into a story.

What makes a good one?

Good adventure games have controls you can trust on every jump, checkpoints that are close together, and worlds that change often enough to make you curious about the next level. In escape games, clues should be fair - hard to spot, but logical once you see them.

How to choose: beginners and experienced players

For a gentle start, choose a 2D platformer with short levels or a cosy hidden-object quest. If you like a challenge, try 'rage' platformers, obby courses with few checkpoints or escape games with dozens of rooms. Platformers are easiest with a keyboard; many escape and quest games are fine with taps.
